Philippe Nears Bermuda, Likely To Soak Maine This Weekend
October 24, 2023
Updated By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Fred Allen
Already post-tropical, Philippe will pack a few more squalls across Bermuda this afternoon before soaking eastern and northern Maine this weekend.
As of 11 a.m. AST (EDT), Post-Tropical Cyclone Philippe was located near 30.7N and 64.6W, or about 180 miles south of Bermuda. Philippe is packing top sustained winds of 50 mph and is moving north-northeast at 16 mph. Its minimum central pressure is 1003 mb, or 29.62 inches of mercury.
A few more squalls will rotate across Bermuda throughout this afternoon. After accelerating away from Bermuda, Philippe will take a north and north-northwest track, likely making landfall in eastern Maine on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
Up to an additional inch of rainfall will be possible in Bermuda, with 1 to 3 inches likely for eastern Maine and Atlantic Canada this weekend. Localized totals up to 5 inches will be possible. This will lead to urban and flash flooding, especially in low-lying, poor drainage locations.
Philippe will also produce large, dangerous swells in Bermuda, while spreading north along the Atlantic Seaboard through this weekend. This will likely lead to life-threatening surf and rip currents as well.
Continue to track the progress and impacts of Philippe as well as the rest of the tropics with WeatherBug through the week.
