Christmas Travel Outlook: Wind-Driven Snow Will Remain Problematic

Winter will remain in control for most of the U.S. for Christmas this year, with the main story being the lingering blizzard across parts the eastern Great Lakes. Travelers will also need to watch for snow across the northern Plains to the Midwest.
Christmas Day (Today)
Travelers will have to pay extra attention to rapidly changing weather in the Upper Great Lakes and eastern Great Lakes where intense snow bands dropping one to two inch per hour snow rates will continue adjacent to partly cloudy skies. A fresh low pressure pushing out of Canada will bring light, fluffy snow to the northern Plains, perhaps pushing into the Upper Midwest late.
Lingering snow showers are likely in the northern Cascades while southern Florida will be in the crosshairs of a few late-day showers.
Mother Nature will put a protective dome on the Southwest, central and southern Plains, Lower and Mid-Mississippi Valley and much of the East on Christmas Day. Only sunshine is expected.
