Friday's Low Temperatures

The unrelenting cold will stretch into the weekend, with temperatures holding 15 to 30 degrees below normal.

Lows in the single digits and negatives will be commonplace from the northern and central Plains to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic through Sunday. A large area of Arctic high pressure is currently locked in over the eastern U.S., but a developing coastal storm will bring a reinforcing shot of cold air this weekend.

Highs won't be much warmer, with afternoon temperatures mainly in the 10s and single digits across the northern Plains, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast today. An unlucky few will even see temperatures fail to get above zero.

Widespread Cold Weather Advisories and Extreme Cold Warnings remain in place from the Plains, Mississippi Valley, and Great Lakes into the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Carolinas, and Tennessee Valley. Freeze Warnings and Extreme Cold Watches also cover most of the Southeast, including into the Florida Peninsula.

Florida will see some of its strongest cold temperatures yet early next week, with temperatures in the 30s even getting into southern Florida on Sunday and Monday.
