Rain, Snow, and Wind Batters West Coast
A large low pressure system moving along the California coast will continue to deliver rain, snow, and wind to parts of the West through the weekend.
Rain showers will persist throughout California tonight, with moisture falling as snow once it reaches the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Snowfall will mostly be focused for levels above 4000 feet but amounts of 6 to 12 inches with locally higher amounts will be possible through the weekend. Even mountain ranges just outside of Los Angeles could see 2 to 5 inches over the next couple of days from the Sierra Madre Range to the San Bernardino Mountains. The National Weather Service currently has Winter Weather Advisories in effect for these locations.
As the low tracks onshore, winds will also increase. Wind Advisories are in effect for parts of southern California where sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph are forecast with gusts up to 50 mph.
While there is currently no flood headlines, heavy rain amounts of 1 to 3 inches of rain will be possible this weekend along coastal California, especially the central coast from Salinas to Santa Barbara.
Later on Sunday and Monday, rain and snow will push further inland over the Great Basin and Rockies with smaller amounts of 2 to 5 inches of accumulation expected.
