Today's Severe Weather Outlook
A potent cold front will bring the threat for severe weather from Tennessee to Ohio and West Virginia today.

This cold front will separate a warm and humid air mass from an advancing cooler and drier air mass moving in from the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes. The collision of these two air masses will result in robust thunderstorm development this evening from central Tennessee to southeastern Ohio and western West Virginia.

The government's Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk, or a 2 out of 5 on the severe weather probability scale, for much of Tennessee through eastern Kentucky and into southeastern Ohio and western West Virginia.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for portions of far northwest Alabama, central and eastern Kentucky, far northeast Mississippi, western and middle Tennessee, and extreme western Virginia. Cities include Jackson, Nashville, and Crossville, Tenn., London and Jackson, Ky.

Cities such as Nashville, Tenn., Lexington, Ky., and Charleston, W.V. will be at risk to see severe weather, including damaging winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado.

Make sure to know the difference between a watch and a warning should they become issued. A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe weather to occur and to be on alert for any rapidly changing conditions. A warning means that severe weather is imminent, and you should act fast to remain safe.

The best way to remain safe is to stay prepared and informed about your local weather. Have a severe weather kit packed with a battery-operated radio, water and non-perishable food items should you be without power for long periods of time. Also, check the WeatherBug app frequently for any updates on today’s severe weather. Remember, “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!”
