Storms Slice Through The Plains, Ohio Valley
A cold front and a developing disturbance will provide a one-two punch of severe storms through tonight.
There is a Slight Risk in place across parts of the central Plains and the High Plains thanks to a cold front stalled overhead. All modes of severe weather are possible in this region as a developing storm system advances across the Rockies and into the Plains. Rapid City, S.D., McCook, Neb., Colby and Garden City, Kan., and far eastern Colorado have the best chance for severe storms in the Plains today.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for parts of the High Plains including south-central South Dakota, central Nebraska, eastern Colorado and western Kansas. Cities affected include Rapid City, S.D., McCook and Kearney, Neb., Wray, Lamar and La Junta, Colo., and Colby and Garden City, Kan.
Make sure to frequently check WeatherBug for updates, as a watch can quickly turn into a warning upon imminent danger. It is important to stay prepared for active weather. Make sure you know the difference between a watch and a warning should they become issued. A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe weather to take place, whereas a warning means severe weather is imminent and you need to act fast to prevent damage to property or even loss of life. Remember, “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!”
