A pair of storm systems will bring snow to the Great Lakes, Northeast, and Four Corners regions today.

Further to the east, tonight and into Saturday morning 3 to 8 inches of snow is likely for parts of the Northeast in northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, central to southern Maine, and northern Massachusetts. Localized snow amounts up to 8 to 12 inches will be possible.

Similarly, these alerts have been issued for southern Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, eastern New York, northeastern Pennsylvania, and northern New Jersey.
On the south side of this low pressure system, gusty winds are expected today into Saturday. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph will be possible across eastern Iowa, southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, northern Indiana, southern Michigan, and northern Ohio where High Wind Advisories are in place. The high terrain of western Pennsylvania and West Virginia have these advisories in place as well.
Behind this system, another low pressure system will move through the Four Corners region today. Light to briefly moderate snow will fall throughout the day, with heavier snow confined to the highest elevations. Snow levels will lower to around 4,000 to 5,000 feet for today. Above those elevations, expect 2 to 6 inches of snow, while up to a foot of new snow is likely over the highest peaks.
Numerous Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Storm Advisories are found across the higher elevations of Utah, northern New Mexico, and western Colorado. There are even a few Avalanche Warnings in place across Utah and western Colorado.
A brief lull in the active weather will settle over the western U.S. heading into the weekend. However, another storm system is taking aim for the Pacific Northwest to close out the weekend. Meanwhile, a potential coastal storm may bring strong winds and snow to portions of the East Sunday into Monday.
Snow combined with gusty winds will lead to difficult travel, including icy, snow-packed roads and near whiteout conditions.
