Driving Rain Hits Southeast To Mid-Atlantic
Areas of heavy rain and storms will spread northward from Florida to the Mid-Atlantic through Tuesday.

A cut-off low over the Southeast is pulling rich Gulf moisture up through Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia today, causing thunderstorms and pockets of heavy rain. Much of this region will see 0.75 to 2 inches of rainfall through tonight, with locally higher amounts of 2 to 4 inches possible.

While thunderstorms in the Southeast won't be that widespread today, there will be enough activity to cause some concern for severe weather. Gusty winds and small hail will be the main threats, with a couple of tornadoes or waterspouts also possible.

The heavy rain and storms will shift northward into the southern Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday. While widespread two-day rainfall of 0.5 to 1.5 inches is likely from central Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey to Virginia, locally higher amounts up to 2 to 4 inches will be possible in Virginia, especially in the upslope areas of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Flash Flood Watches dot the landscape from southern Florida to parts of Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and western Virginia.

Remember, if you approach a flooded roadway, it is best to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown!”
