Intense Heat Bakes the Southeast, Central U.S.
Intense heat will spread across the Southeast and Central U.S. today.

High temperatures will once again climb into the 90s in many areas from Texas and Oklahoma into the Ohio Valley today. A few places in Texas and Oklahoma will even top out in the lower 100s. When combined with the high humidity that remains in place, it will feel like it's as hot as 105-110 degrees!

Heat Advisories continue to be found from northern Texas and Oklahoma eastward into northern Mississippi and northeastward into southern Ohio and southwestern West Virginia. There are even some Extreme Heat Warnings found across portions of eastern Missouri into Illinois, including the St. Louis area.

While areas in the Ohio Valley may see some relief from the heat this afternoon in the form of scattered showers and thunderstorms, residents across the Southeast states won't be as lucky.

High pressure is expected to keep many areas from Virginia to northern and central Florida rain-free today. Temperatures will climb into the middle to upper 90s in many locations, and may even top 100 degrees in parts of the Carolinas. When combined with dew points in the 70s, many areas from Virginia into Florida will feel like it's in the 100s!

Numerous Heat Advisories can be found from Virginia into central Florida. There are even some Extreme Heat Warnings in place across eastern North Carolina into northeastern South Carolina.

Heat Advisories are also in place across the Dakotas into northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin for today. Extreme Heat Watches are also found across eastern Nebraska, norhtern Missouri, Iowa, and southern Minnesota.

If you must go outdoors, prepare by staying hydrated and keep a watchful eye for any signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Wear the right clothing, such as loose-fitting, lightweight and breathable fabrics, and take many breaks within a cool and shaded area.

Make sure to take extra precautions for children and the elderly as they are more susceptible to heat-related illness. Never leave children or animals alone in a locked vehicle as it can become dangerous and potentially fatal. Do not forget to download the WeatherBug app to stay up to date on the latest for this dangerous western heatwave.
