-URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Anchorage AK 512 PM AKST Sun Jan 4 2026 East Turnagain Arm-Portage-Turnagain Pass- Including the cities of Turnagain Pass, Girdwood, and Portage 512 PM AKST Sun Jan 4 2026 ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON AKST MONDAY... * WHAT...Snow and localized areas of blowing and drifting snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 9 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph near Portage and portions of the Seward Highway along Turnagain Arm. Visibility reduced to as low as one half mile at times. * WHERE...East Turnagain Arm, Portage, and Turnagain Pass. * WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to noon AKST Monday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one half mile or less due to blowing snow. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Highest snowfall amounts expected near Portage. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute. The gusty winds will decrease and snow will become lighter or taper off late Monday morning through early Monday afternoon.
