-Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC 830 PM EDT Sun Mar 29 2026 Martin-Pitt-Greene-Lenoir- Including the cities of Williamston, Robersonville, Oak City, Jamesville, Greenville, Bethel, Farmville, Grifton, Grimesland, Snow Hill, Hookerton, Walstonburg, Kinston, La Grange, and Pink Hill 830 PM EDT Sun Mar 29 2026 ...INCREASED FIRE DANGER Monday FROM 11 AM TO 7 PM... The combination of afternoon relative humidity values of around 40% and very dry fine fuels will result in an increased risk for the spread of wildfires Monday afternoon across portions of the Eastern NC inland coastal plain. Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks, and keep vehicles off of dry grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. A statewide burn ban issued by the North Carolina Forest Service is currently in place. All open burning is prohibited until further notice.
