February is set to start with even more snow for the Northwestern U.S. this weekend.
A disturbance crossing through the Northwest will bring plenty of snowfall to the Pacific Northwest and Upper and Central Rockies today and Sunday, but lower elevations could see more of a rain and snow mix. This system’s cold front will also bring even excessive rain to northern California as well as snow to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Winter Weather Advisories, Winter Storm Watches and Warnings are darted across these areas, especially over the higher elevations. Flood Watches are also in place for the Sacramento Valley as they deal with the excessive rain.
By the end of the day Sunday, the Cascades, Olympic Mountains and the Sierra Nevada will see 2 to 4 feet of snow. The Pacific Coast Range from Washington to northern Oregon will see 5 to 10 inches and 2 to 5 elevations heading into lower elevations. Two to 5 inches will also occur across the lower elevations in central and eastern Oregon.
Meanwhile, 2 to 4 inches will also occur in the Rockies in Idaho, Utah and western Wyoming by the end of the day Sunday with 5 to 10 inches heading into lower elevations. The Rockies in Montana will see 1 to 2 feet of snow with 2 to 5 inches in the lower elevations. Three to 8 inches will occur in the Rockies in Colorado by the end of the day Sunday with isolated amounts exceeding 1 to 2 feet.
The snowy start to February is slated to continue to start the work week. Another low pressure system is expected to dump additional snow to these regions into the midweek.
